My Testimony Gets Stronger Every Day!

Monday, January 31, 2011

Friends and Family,

Well, this week has been crazy!!!!!!!!! We basically dropped all our investigators because they were not keeping their commitments. We only visit them once every month to see if they really want to change their lives and follow the example of Jesus Christ. It was really frustrating when they said the would commit, then they didn't follow through. So Elder Knight and I have been walking with the Lord finding people ready and yearning for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our goal for the week was to place 13 copies of the Book of Mormon into the hearts of the people of Fullerton. To do this, we start out with an opening prayer and go through the introduction of the Book of Mormon talking about the first paragraph, Second to last paragraph, and Last paragraph. We then invite them to read, ponder, and pray about the Book of Mormon. We end with a closing prayer. Monday we did two, Tuesday 1, Wednesday 0, Thursday 3, Friday 0, Saturday 6 yep that's right, then Sunday 2. I have never worked so hard in a week then this week. We got rejected a lot but the 14 people that listened were ready! They all accepted to read and pray. After this week I learned how important it is to have goals so that you push yourself more then you think you could. We taught 16 lessons this week. Even though nobody has a baptismal date yet we are on the right track. Fullerton is different, there is a very rich class and a very poor class of people. All the missionaries have tracted in the poor area. Elder Knight and I decided to focus on the rich and boy I have seen some pretty big houses. They are pretty ruthless. Even though they have all this stuff they are not happy. We try to show them through the Holy Ghost what brings true happiness. If they would just soften their heart and listen with an open mind they can find that. I am learning how to be patient and optimistic. Walking with the Lord and following the spirit with urgency. I am so grateful that the lord put 14 people in our path so that we can help guide them to their Father in Heaven. I have been attacked a lot from Born Again Christians, Catholics, and anti-Christs. Its amazing how simple words with the power of the spirit can confound people in their contentious desires. My testimony gets targeted everyday by the adversary but each time the Holy Spirit prevails and my testimony gets stronger everyday. I am striving to become a great missionary and to serve the Lord with all my heart. Keep the people in Fullerton in your prayers. Every one for that matter, around the world!!!!!!!!!!! Missionary work is progressing and good times are ahead. Time is flying by don't blink. ha ha Love You all!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Head is Spinning.....

Family and Friends,

I have been in my second area for almost 3 weeks and its crazy! The days go by way fast in the car and I see so many people and learning so many new names. My head is spinning. I am starting to enjoy Fullerton, it is different. I'm starting to meet the thugs of California. Its kind of cool, all the gangs think we are pretty chill and they all ask us questions of what we can and can't do. Elder Knight goes up to them and says "we have a message about Jesus Christ that will help you get through Sin and Temptation". As these thugs are smoking and have beers in their hands. One yells "SIN AND TEMPTATION"!!!!!! (like a thug would say it). Elder Knight just froze. I saved him I was like ya, "Satan is trying to bring you down bro. We know this will help ya". They were like oh alright cool cool so we talked to them. I have become good friends with these high school kids who play rugby and are trying to get out of the gang thing. We tell all of them that there lives will get better if they read the Book of Mormon and a lot of them say they will and just don't follow through. We are still trying to get permission from their parents to teach them but they are Catholic and don't want us to teach them nothing. Also I have learned how to get through being discouraged and frustrated. We had 15 lessons scheduled last week and only two followed through. We had 12 Investigators that were not progressing and we told all of them we need to visit less frequently until they have a leap of faith and follow through with commitments. I am learning not to complain like Laman and Lemuel and just go work. When we tract all day and we are so tired we just crash at night are usually the best days. I am learning to use my time wisely. This week we are flooding Book of Mormons in the Anaheim Mission. 1000 is are mark in one week. That is about 13 per companionship so two a day. We have to teach a lesson and place the book of Mormon in their hearts to make it count. Its Wednesday and we got three done. I have seen some cool things thus far getting our prayers answered and finding people. We are starting to get return appointments with new investigators and I am excited. Elder Knight and I get along perfectly, I am learning how to not get frustrated over dumb things. ha ha. Doing all that I can to keep the spirit in our companionship. I have met a lot of cool people on my mission and I am learning how to be a people person and talk to weird people ha ha. Help those that are in need. Striving to make this a successful mission and to baptize as many people the Lord puts in my path. Love you all!!!!!!!! Onward Christian Soldier!!!!!!

Talking with the Gangsters!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Family and Friends,

This week has been Crazy!!!! I am in a new area, with a new companion, meeting new people. I am driving for the first time in 3 months and talking with some gangsters. Lets just say Fullerton is a lot different than Irvine. ha ha. Our area is twice the size of my last and we had to walk the first five days because the Elder before me crashed the Malibu into a wall so I was able to have the opportunity to walk everywhere. I am so out of shape! ha ha I couldn't move the next day after walking for 6 hours on Tuesday. We had a ton of appointments and couldn't get to them. But we were able to meet a lot of new interesting people in the streets so it is good. Saturday I was able to meet a lot of the investigators. This area has 4 times as many investigators but for some reason everyone here is not following through with their commitments. We invited 3 of them to church and none of them came. It was very depressing. Our goal as a companionship is to have 3 Baptisms this transfer. We definitely have the investigators but its just how to help them follow through. We have two people that could be baptized if they could give up smoking for 3 weeks. We are trying to find a way to help them get over their addiction and to rely upon the Lord. I haven't taught a lesson on the Word of Wisdom to somebody who is struggling with it so I am really prayerfully finding out the best way. The ward here is a lot different then the last area. People here are a lot older who have been in Fullerton for 20 years plus so its a lot different interacting with the members. Every one in the other ward had children under the age of 5 just starting their careers. I am missing my last area so much. A car is nice but being on bike I felt like I got so much more accomplished. But the Lord has sent me here for a reason and Elder Knight is my companion and we are going rock this area up so you all prepare for that in the next couple emails. I am learning how to talk to people and how to apply lessons that will help them and not just teach a lesson. I have a lot more pressure in teaching because Elder Knight and I have the same experience. We were in the MTC together. Training wheels are off and we have our own area. I have never taught in such unison with another missionary then with Elder Knight. He is hard working and obedient (which is surprising ha ha) It's going to be good. I have a lot more weird stories to tell you. I will just show you how ghetto this area is. Elder Knight and I are walking down this alley way slash street and we were going to go talk to this guy walking towards us. We were going to say something and then he asked is there a lot of drug activity on this street. He asks if we are selling. I said do we look like we sell drugs. Then he says I am trying to find some drugs so if you find any let me know and walks off. I was so dumbfounded I didn't even have time to give him a pass along card. A lot of people here have a Word of Wisdom problem that they are struggling with. The area I am in has two colleges and 2 high schools. We talk to so many people our age and it is crazy what people are doing with their lives at this time. We give out a lot of referrals to the Zone leaders or the singles ward. Our apartment is in the middle of all these frat and sorority houses. I feel like I am in the middle of Sodom and Gomorrah and I got my sword (Book of Mormon) to fight the adversary. I am so grateful I was born into the true church of Jesus Christ and that I have seen the blessings of living the Gospel. I am so happy to serve him and to help people see what true happiness is. There are struggles but I put my trust in the Lord and not into my own flesh and I can do anything. I am striving to work hard through adversity because when there is great opposition that means something really good is about to happen. I am working hard, the church is true and the field is white already to harvest. Love you all!

GOODBYE IRVINE AND ELDER BANNISTER! THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD TIMES!

GOODBYE TO MY SWEET BIKE WITH A TWISTED RIM!(for now anyway)

P-day Activity!!! Picking oranges and delivering to people.

It is Hard to Say Goodbye!

Family and Friends,

Well this week has been good! We have found a lot of people who are ready to hear the Good News!!! We have 10 new investigators and we are teaching 6 lessons a week. I have been enjoying my bike that has a dented rim (ha ha) and have been working hard finding those that are ready. I rceived the call for transfers and I am getting shipped off to Fullerton, Acacia Park Ward. I am reuniting with a MTC buddy Elder Knight. Funniest Elder who is the whitest kid you could meet from Pocatello Idaho who break dances and thinks he knows how to rap ha ha. I am going from one Pocatello companion to another. Fullerton was Elder Bannister's last area and trained Elder Cummins who was Elder Knights trainer. So there is a lot of connections intertwined in this transfer. And Elder Knight dated Elder Bannister's sister. So there are some mixed feelings there. Ha ha haah. But its cool! It looks like I am going to have to visit Poky some day. I am really bummed though. I really don't want to leave Irvine especially Westpark Ward. The Members here were amazing and there are some really cool families who were missionary minded. I am going to miss Bobi who is now like my second mom who took care of me in my "Greeny Days". I am going to miss my Persian Friend Ali Reza who I love dearly. I am going to miss my bike that is damaged and have to put it into storage. I am the designated driver and I am freaking out. I have been confined on a bike in a little 4 mile radius ward and now I am going to be in a car driving on the freeways in California. I am kind of nervous haha. I am going to miss Elder Bannister who was my Senior Companion, my Trainer, and My District Leader. There was reason why the Lord put us together. I have learned so much how to become a better missionary and learned a lot about myself. I learned how to swallow my pride and take into consideration other peoples thoughts on things. Elder Bannister taught me how to be strictly obedient and to do the Lord's work with urgency. Westpark ward is ready to harvest and Elder Bannister and the next companion he is training are going to be very successful. Its weird to think I am going to meet new people. More Hispanics than Asian people and going to learn more Spanish then Chinese haha. My first area has been successful because I have worked hard and reaped the blessings. At church when I told Bishop Yost I was getting transferred he announced it to the ward and had me come up and bear my testimony and I was privileged to do it. I expressed my thanks of the love and support the members gave to me. They are like family and I have a lot of connections after my mission. Zack and Zane asked me to confer the Priesthood on them after Sunday School. I felt so privileged but nervous because I have never done it before and it was just an amazing experience. They are going to be some good missionaries in a couple years. I am going to miss my first area so much. The Lord has other plans for me and I am ready to do some work in Fullerton with a long lost Elder and we are going to put some pazzaazzz into that area. I am here to help people come closer to Christ and plant seeds and baptize people. That is what I am going to do in Fullerton. I love you all I am loving my mission and it is going by too fast. Have a wonderful week and Happy New Year!!

Adrenaline Week!

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Friends and Family,

I have had a wonderful and adrenaline rushing week! ha ha. We taught Zack and Zane about the priesthood and about missionary work. We explained to them how they are going to get interviewed to receive the Aaronic Priesthood. They were all really excited for that. Then we committed them to prepare to go on a mission at the age of 19. They accepted this challenge, so Zack has three years and Zane six years before they can serve the Lord. So they have a few years to prepare. Well I want to tell you that I had a never forgetting New Year's Eve experience. ( I have had a couple in the past! ha ha). So we went and had dinner with Bishop Yost and his family and it was fun and the spirit was with us. We went and checked on some people and one of them is George Allen, a member from Utah. He is working here while his wife lives in Salt Lake, so we knew that he would be home alone this New Year's Eve. So we went to wish him a Happy New Year and we left with a prayer that Elder Bannister gave. It was ten minutes to nine and we were heading home. I got a thought that I needed to be careful on the ride home or I am going to get hit by a car. Then I thought to myself "man what is wrong with these bad thoughts of me getting hit by a car, I am not going to get hit by a car". So we start heading home and we cross the intersection on Paseo Westpark and Barranca. As I am going through the intersection the light is green. I had a feeling that I needed to slow down a little bit, because the thought that I was going to get hit came to my mind. I went from around 20 mph to 15 mph on my bike which is still pretty fast. Elder Bannister was 10 feet ahead of me and he got through. I almost got through until a huge black SUV rolls the red light going right and I slam on my brakes and got hit from the back on the right side and heard a "BOOM". My life flashed seriously before my eyes and I was waiting for massive pain. I cracked my sweet yellow helmet and I stood up really fast and I was dazed and I acted like I was fine. ha. I thought my bike was shredded. I yell, "are you serious, I just got hit by a car". Then I said, "is my bike okay"?!!! It happened so fast I started going through shock. My adrenaline was just pumping. This Oriental Lady runs up to me like she just killed me. She said, "are you okay, are you okay? and she barely spake English. I explained to her that I was okay and don't know how I am okay. I was really jittery and was kind of out of it when we were switching insurances. I looked at my bike and was surprised that nothing was wrong with it so I thought. So I just rode back home and parked my bike and just sat down in the garage. I was getting nauseous. Ten minutes after I get hit by a car, Bobi drives up. ha ha. Pulls out the Bubbly and the 7 layer dip and says "Happy New Year" ha ha. I explained to her what happened and why I felt like throwing up and she insisted that I still should get my picture taken and promised that she wouldn't tell my mom. So those pictures you got from Bobi (see the one below sitting with bubbly in my hand) I got hit like 15 minutes before that. We called President and I talked to a LA doctor and he said take Ibuprofen for my bruised up leg and my swollen wrists. Really I was just sick from the Shock. Ha Ha. So that is my near death experience again on New Years Night. Angels were really watching out for me on this one. I am so glad that I had the Holy Ghost prompting me to slow down or it could have been a lot worse. The fact that I am okay and that only my helmet is cracked and that my back wheel frame is bent is all the damage that happened. It is a Miracle! I felt like I got blindsided by Ray Lewis (one of the biggest, meanest linebackers in the NFL) who is going thirty miles an hour and I am going 15 it's ridiculous ha ha. So mom don't worry about me, I was able to work the next day. ha ha Just a little sore. So that was my crazy New Years and I was able to have some Sparkling apple cider after it. Cheers! ha ha. It was awesome. We are going to call the lady that hit me tomorrow and she will pay for my back tire and my helmet so its all good, no harm taken. I was then able to perform my first ordinance of Confirming, I was so nervous and I did pretty well I thought, didn't have to do it twice haha. So It was a good week. Its been cold and raining surprisingly this last couple weeks. So I feel like a hard core Missionary riding my bike in the rain with a wobbly tire and a cracked helmet ha ha. Love you all have a good and safe New Year ha ha.
